Weekend one of the 2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has come and gone, and we’ve put together a day-by-day recap of the music festival and the many off-site Coachella parties, starting with Friday’s highlights.

Friday kicked off with pre-festival pool parties, most of which were held in Palm Springs (about 25 miles from the Empire Polo Club, where the music festival is held), including The Music Lounge presented by BMF Media at the Ingleside Inn (check out our full recap of this event here); the Desert Lounge presented by Tilly’s and Dickies at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club; A-Trak performing at the LED Day Club at the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs; the Desert Weekender at the Saguaro and the Harper’s Bazaar Pool Party at the Parker Palm Springs.

DJ Mia Moretti started out the day at the Ingleside Inn, where she hosted the Music Lounge event, with friend Katy Perry stopping by to enjoy her set, and then Moretti did a quick outfit change and hopped over to the Parker for the Harper’s Bazaar party, which had an amazing pop-up shop and Urban Decay doing makeovers on guests with their new Electric makeup palette.

Our pick for best-dressed of the day at Harper’s Bazaar: PARTYSKIRTS by SKOT co-founder Mariel Armstrong in a white and black polka dot PARTYSKIRT, black bra top and a cherry headband, along with her two stylish gal pals (we’ve already documented our obsession with banana leaf and palm front prints here!).

Further out in the desert, Vestal Watches hosted day one of the Vestal Village, with live music and the hippie-est vibe of all of the parties. A little later in the day, Soho House threw a soirée at the Merv Griffin estate in La Quinta with hosts Forward by Elyse Walker and Rosie Huntington-Whitely, with DJ Mia Moretti again hitting the turntables, along with Myles Hendrik, Daisy Lowe and Ana Calderon.

Over at the main event, sets by HAIM, Martin Garrix, Flume and OutKast were some of the day one highlights, with Janelle Monae making a surprise appearance onstage with OutKast for “Tightrope.” Other day one standouts included Aloe Blacc (singer of catchy tunes including “The Man,” the Avicii collab “Wake Me Up” and our fave, “I Need a Dollar”), as well as English band Bastille’s performance of their hit “Pompeii.”

Artist Phillip K. Smith debuted his spectacular new installation piece, “Reflection Field,” at the festival site. Starting out as mirrored pieces during the day (serving as the perfect selfie opportunity for many festival attendees!), the five massive pieces transformed into fields of colored light as the sun began to set.

Celebrities attended the festival in droves, including Leonardo DiCaprio (who recently purchased a home in Palm Springs), Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Emma Roberts, Kesha, Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Hillary Duff (surprisingly with ex-husband-to-be Mike Comrie), Paris and Nicky Hilton, Dianna Agron, Selena Gomez, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Fergie, Lea Michelle, Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough, Zoe Kravitz, Kate Bosworth, Kellan Lutz, David Hasselhoff, Jared Leto, Jennie Garth, Emmy Rossum, Lance Bass, Sienna Miller and Ashley Greene (shown below wearing a Cleobella dress and Koolaburra boots with boyfriend, Paul Khoury). Per usual, the model quotient was high as well, including Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Poppy Delevingne and sister Cara Delevingne.

Late night party options included the Virgin Sacrifices party by Flaunt magazine and Siwy, with Lindsay Lohan in attendance, which got off to a rocky start due to issues with local law enforcement, and Details @ Midnight, a collab between Details magazine and Lexus, with a DJ set by The Knocks and celebs including Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, Christina Milian and Dallas star Josh Henderson in attendance.
