During the two weekends of the Desert Trip music festival, Ace Hotel & Swim Club is presenting Magic Hour — a sun-blanched, bohemian pleasure trip in the shadow of the mighty San Jacintos. Join the fun for two weekends’ worth of dusky, low desert delights, with an art exhibition and installation, live music by Purple Mountain Majesties, Darren Rademaker, The Dig and surprise guests, poolside DJ sets by ESP Institute and Mackswell and so much more.
On Thursday, October 6, from 6–10pm, Ace Hotel is hosting the opening reception for Jean on Jean, a denim exhibition by Amber Jean Young and Jenny Sharaf. With patchwork quilts, digital prints, bleached denim paintings and “jam patched” limited edition denim jackets, the two look to collectively celebrate ’60s counterculture. They will also have a limited edition run of patches available for purchase during open gallery hours to be sewn onto viewer’s clothing. Patches cost $10, with proceeds going to Para Los Niños, an LA-based non-profit dedicated to the social well-being of children.
Klaus Thymann‘s sustainably-sourced, outdoor installation in conjunction with Project Pressure will be revealed with an opening Friday, October 14. The piece is meant to work in concert with its surrounding environment, wearing down over the course of time. Thymann will be onsite for an artist lecture on the subject October 14 at 8pm.
