A photo essay by Nancy Baron, excerpted from her book, “The Good Life > Palm Springs,” as featured in print in issue one of Palm Springs Style magazine

After becoming a part-time resident of Palm Springs, photographer Nancy Baron began documenting the colorful people, places and moments that extend beyond the area’s resorts and tourist attractions. Each of her images tells a story, but in an understated manner that creates a subtle impression of life in this desert oasis. The mundane is juxtaposed with midcentury modern masterpieces, and everyday tasks are performed amid jaw-dropping landscapes. Personal style abounds among the residents of Palm Springs, in their fashion, their homes and the cars they drive. Even pets look particularly content to be living their version of the good life in Palm Springs.

Baron’s images are currently on exhibit at Gallery 446 in Palm Springs (446 S. Indian Canyon Drive, Palm Springs 92262) through May 27, 2015. “The Good Life > Palm Springs” is available at bookstores and nancybaron.com.
