There is a slice for every taste in the Palm Springs area! Here, in no particular order, is a guide to our favorite spots:
BIRBA
Birba serves up gourmet, wood-fired pizza with a large variety of farm-fresh seasonal toppings and an ever-changing menu featuring weekly specials. Located in the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs, dining at Birba is al fresco (the entire restaurant is outdoors with a covered bar in the back), with seating at traditional tables or in the tree-lined lounge areas featuring fire pits. Try classic menu items like the Margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella and basil, or go for innovative combinations like white pizza with blueberries, goat cheese and caramelized shallots or a red-sauce-based pizza with chorizo, cream, tomatoes, clams and onion (this week’s pizza specials). While the pizza is the star, standout alternatives and accompaniments excel, including all of the salads (we particularly love the beet salad) and ‘Nonna’s Meatballs.’
Head over to Birba on a Thursday evening and you can dine and drink under the stars while enjoying live music as part of the weekly Local 622 event showcasing local talent. The craft cocktails are stellar (we love the ‘Hello Nancy,’ made with vodka, St. Germain, fresh grapefruit juice, muddled lemon and soda), or take advantage of the good selection of beer on tap and Italian wines. Look for the lighted red ‘B’ sign on the corner and you’ll know you’re in the right place.
