We are excited to start a new series today called I Heart Palm Springs, where we will be speaking with some super stylish and talented folks about their favorite Palm Springs picks. We are thrilled to kick things off with fine art photographer extraordinaire, Gray Malin. If you aren’t yet familiar with Gray’s work, you will thank us for this intro! Based in West Hollywood, Calif., Gray travels the world capturing breathtaking images, many of which are aerial shots taken from a door-less helicopter.

Above, umbrellas on the beach in Lisbon, Portugal; below, Coogee Beach, Australia; both from Gray’s À la Plage, À la Piscine collection.

Gray is a big fan of Palm Springs and makes frequent trips out to the desert for some fun in the sun. We’ve gotten the scoop on some of his favorite spots and must-haves for an amazing P.S. weekend!

Favorite places to stay in Palm Springs?

Gray:  I have stayed at the Ace, the Viceroy and the Parker. I love them all so it just depends on the vibe of the weekend. If you are going with a group of friends definitely stay at the Ace and have them do a Taco Party in your room. If you are looking for a chic hotel that’s still centrally located for exploring the town, stay at the Viceroy (and make sure to order the beignets, which are still available even though they are no longer on the menu!). If you are looking for a retreat and want to splurge, the Parker is a slice of heaven from the second you arrive.

Favorite restaurants in Palm Springs?

Gray:  I am a sucker for live music so we usually head to Las Casuelas Terraza on Saturday night and grab a table on the patio where the band plays. If you are looking for something easy, the bar at the Saguaro next to Tinto restaurant [El Jefe] has its own menu and the food is delicious gourmet Mexican small plates. Yum.

Favorite shops in Palm Springs?

Gray:  My absolute favorite store is Partylab. They have the most amazing party supplies which will spice up any fun weekend in Palm Springs. The staff is amazing and I just love the whole vibe of the store. Another store I can’t avoid is Mr. Turk – best spot to grab a new outfit to look stylish in the desert.

Favorite poolside cocktail/drink?

Gray:  I love the Piña Colada at the Parker– it’s light on the cream and they put a rum float on the top which gives it a nice kick.

Your must-have items to pack for a weekend in Palm Springs?

Gray:  My new swimsuit line for Orlebar Brown, of course! And I love some fun pool floaties. I also love Cards Against Humanity, which is a fun game that is perfect for poolside with some friends.

Gray sent us some photos from his recent (floatie-filled) trip to the Parker Palm Springs with his husband and friends…looks like they had a blast!
